This past September, we witnessed massive worldwide demonstrations demanding action to fight climate change.
In New York City, approximately 300,000 people participated in peaceful marches and rallies. I am encouraged by this show of grassroots support for action on climate change by my fellow Americans. I hope that my colleagues in Congress will listen to these voices and that legislation to combat climate change, which most studies show is supported by a majority of Americans, will have a chance to become law.
Human-caused climate change is scientifically supported by the vast majority of climate scientists. Projections of the impacts of climate change are alarming, and action is urgently needed. That’s why I will work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for legislation that will help stop the advance of climate change and grow our economy at the same time. I am hopeful that the rise of the climate change grassroots movement will push my fellow legislators to enact laws to protect us, our national security, and our planet.
