The House passed my amendment to H.R. 3136, which would ensure the needs of veterans and service members were taken into consideration as colleges and trade schools look to find ways to help students get credit toward graduation based on skills and knowledge that may have been learned outside the classroom.

I participated in Saturday night’s candlelight vigil for Misty Holt-Singh at the University Plaza Hotel in downtown Stockton.

By now most everyone has heard about the increasing numbers of unaccompanied minors at our southern border seeking entrance to the United States and protection under our laws.

This week, week 28, July 7 – July 13 started with a trip from Stockton with veteran Scott Halsey to his appointment at the VA medical center in Palo Alto.

I believe the disturbing revelations of dysfunction in the Department of Veterans Affairs health care system can be an opportunity to transform that system into one that truly serves veterans, if we follow some simple recommendations:

Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-CA) today announced that he had received a 100% score on this year’s National Immigration Scorecard, which is issued by a coalition of national Latino groups. The score is the highest that any member of Congress can get.

As an advocate for our region’s veterans, I was invited by Veterans Committee Chairman Jeff Miller to a recent hearing in which impartial witnesses testified about the problems with the VA Health Care System, and I want to update the residents of my district about what I learned at the hearing.
