Economy
As a former small business owner, I know small businesses are the engine that drives the American economy. In Congress, I have fought for policies to encourage small business growth and development, including targeted tax cuts and credits.
As we face an unstable economy, we should be doing everything we can to spur innovation and the type of family-wage jobs that increased research and development will create. That is why I have worked hard recently to push for tax incentives that will create good paying jobs through the type of technological innovation that America has long been known for, including expanding the use and production of renewable energy.
I have pushed for funds for the type of green jobs that our expanding new energy technology economy will create. These are the type of jobs that cannot be offshored. I have worked to reduce the crushing tax burden on family farms and small businesses so that they can remain open, productive and in the family.
One of the issues I have heard about most frequently from my Small Business Advisory Board is how out of control health care costs are strangling the entrepreneurial spirit of American business. To protect our current small businesses and empower new growth, the healthcare crisis needs to be addressed in a way that provides quality affordable health care for all Americans.
