Transportation
I travel hundreds of miles throughout our district every week and I know traffic problems are some of the biggest issues we face locally. The consequences of traffic congestion are becoming increasingly clear, not just in lost productivity due to time spent in traffic, but also less time spent with family and loved ones.
We must work to improve our overloaded and increasingly outdated transportation infrastructure with expanded capacity, new HOV lanes and additional public transit options like expanding ACE and BART service and creating bus rapid transit systems. I have fought for funding to improve Highways 99 and 12, I-5 and I-205 as well as bus rapid transit between the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
While critically important, expanding the existing infrastructure is only a short term solution. We must commit to creating jobs throughout the district, but particularly in San Joaquin County so that tens of thousands of Central Valley residents are not forced to commute into the Bay Area for work every day.
